Personal statement
I have been in post as a Mental Health Adviser within the Disability and Wellbeing service since November 2018.
My role includes the delivery and design of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention training to all staff and students. I also sit on the Suicide Safer Strathclyde group, where we are working to promote a safer Strathclyde community for all.
In my role I also meet with students to support them with their wellbeing and assess their mental health. This involves referrals for counselling, memberships to Strathclyde Sports, regular check-ins with the student. In addition I can also put in place adjustments to support the students studies.
I have been a volunteer at a suicide crisis centre called Chris's House since October 2005. This is based in Wishaw and offers 24/7 support to anyone experiencing suicidal crisis. We also offer a variety of groups in addition to 1 to 1 supports. These services are free and are not restricted to a particular geographic area as we are self-funded.
In my free time I like to keep fit by walking my dog and also volunteering as a boxercise instructor at a charity gym based in Coatbridge.
